Las 24 Horas

Acrylic on Masonite

A mothers job is 24 hours when there is no one to help her.  Another Peru inspired painting.

In Peru our group moved a lot. Everyday we had a new set of things to see, people to help, and altitude to adjust to. The locals moved at a much more relaxed pace, one that was even a little humbling. The families we met there truly opened my eyes to just how rich I was compared to them. I felt I could do so much with so little and they were so grateful. Our group was there with the intent of completing the construction of a kindergarten for one village, and for another we collaborated with families and made  many of them fuel efficient stoves which would aid in the reduction of smoke induced illnesses and injuries. In both cases it was mother’s and their children who would end up with the largest benefit from the projects. Altitude sickness aside it was one of the most enriching times in my life. A complete opposite of what I was used to.
